Need help with your lawn?

Back

We know that a healthy lawn is often the key to enjoying your garden so here are some ways to make lawn care easier.

What do you want to do? Strategies How Scotts® can help

Topdressing to rejuvenate the lawn.

  • Lawns take a battering over the holiday season and as a result are often left with bare patches and holes.
  • Use a topress mix to level the surface as well as rejuvenate the whole lawn.
  • Spread topdress mix over the existing lawn with a shovel.
  • If overseeding, use quality grass seeds and lightly rake into the soil.
  • Wait for 8 – 10 weeks, after seedlings emerge, feed with Scotts Lawn Builder slow release fertiliser.

Save time and money by using Scotts Lawn Builder™ Topdress Mix which is an all-in-one quality alternative to topsoil, manure and other lawn soils, consisting of rich organic, composted material fortified with Lawn Builder™, Hydraflo2 wetting agent and iron.

Prepare an area prior to laying a new lawn.

  • Kill off all existing grass and weeds.
  • Cultivate the area. Combine organic material and sandy loam with existing soil.
  • Level the area.
  • Apply a starter fertiliser.
  • Water well with a light sprinkler.
  • Lay turf on to moist soil OR apply lawn seed.
  • Keep area moist until lawn is established.

Kill the existing grass and weeds with a glyphosate herbicide that doesn’t poison the soil.

Apply Lawn Builder™ New Lawns & Repairs to promote root growth on new grass.

Apply the lawn food with a Scotts® Spreader. Choose the one that suits your lawn situation best.

Keep your lawn growing well.

  • Once lawns are more than 8 weeks old, apply a high nitrogen fertiliser.

Slow release fertilisers are best for the lawn and for the environment. Apply in spring, early summer & in autumn.
  • Water lawns deeply once or twice a week if restrictions allow.
  • Use wetting agents to help prevent water wastage and to increase moisture absorption.

Use a Lawn Builder™ fertiliser that matches your specific lawn need.  For example, fertilise and kill weeds at the same time.

Use one of the Scotts® spreaders

  • to distribute the fertiliser evenly
  • to ensure an even green lawn with no unhealthy surge growth

Promote better water absorption by using a lawn fertiliser with a wetting agent, like Scotts® Lawn Builder™ with Wetting Agent.

Deal with lawn weeds.

Keep lawns well fertilised to reduce the likelihood of spaces opening up where weeds can grow.

Use a selective herbicide that targets broad-leaf weeds.

Warning!Careful.

Most broad-lead herbicides cannot be used safely on buffalo or similar grasses.

As a general purpose herbicide that kills weeds and fertilises at the same time, use Lawn Builder™ with Weed Kill in spring and autumn.

Do not use on buffalo grasses

Repair bare patches in the lawn.

  • Loosen the soil in the bare patch.
  • Apply some top dressing.
  • Apply a starter fertiliser.
  • Apply lawn seed suited to your area.
  • Keep the patch moist.
  • Protect the area from birds that eat the seed.
